How to Get Court Records
Everything starts with the court and cause number. Criminal, civil, family, and child-protection cases in the 121st District Court belong to the District Clerk. County Court criminal, civil, probate, and county-level files go to the County Clerk instead. Justice and municipal cases stay with their own clerks. Federal files are not held by either county office.
- Search the County Clerk's Online Public Record Search for county-clerk index entries.
- Check participating district and county data through re:SearchTX.
- Call or visit the responsible clerk when the index is incomplete or a document is needed.
- For mail, fax, or email, first confirm the office's current procedure, fee, and accepted payment.
- Describe the court, cause number, date range, record, and whether inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy is requested.
Quoting the Texas Public Information Act will not unlock every case file. Court case records follow court access law. Rule 12 governs certain judicial administrative records, while county administrative records may fall under Chapter 552.

Types of Court Records
A Yoakum County court record can take many shapes. Think docket sheets, calendar PDFs, petitions, answers, motions, orders, judgments, indictments, plea papers, transcripts, exhibits, bonds, citations, returns of service, jury charges, and appellate filings. None of these substitutes for another. A calendar shows settings. A docket lists case events. A signed order or judgment is what states the court's ruling. Deeds, liens, assumed names, plats, marriage records, and vital records also pass through the County Clerk, under access rules that differ from the ones governing case files. Asking for “all court records” invites delay. Name the exact product and the court.
Yoakum County Court Record Index
The Tyler self-service disclaimer likens the public index to a library card catalogue. It points you toward an underlying record without being the record itself. Data can change without notice. The county advises trying spelling variants and more than one search criterion. No complete Yoakum-specific field list, image price, or required-marker scheme appears on the site. The official Tyler disclaimer lays out this distinction in its own words.

That disclaimer page is the gateway every searcher must read before running a docket search. Confirm any matching entry against the cause number, court, filing date, case type, and the actual clerk file.
Index is not document: An empty search does not prove that no Yoakum County court record exists. Wrong court, spelling, indexing lag, old paper files, or restricted access can explain it.
Yoakum County Court Record Handoffs
One case can leave paper in several offices. A traffic case can start in municipal or JP court. It may later produce a County Court appeal record. An eligible trial judgment can also open a separate Seventh Court of Appeals docket. That appellate docket carries a new cause number. Each clerk keeps only what was made at that level. Ask the first clerk about your paper. Does it belong to the originating file, the appeal file, or both? Write down the cause number each court used. That habit keeps you from mistaking a County Clerk docket for the whole lower-court case, or the appellate docket for the full trial file.
What a Court Record Contains
What you see depends on what you request. The public Yoakum County docket samples show only part of the larger file, so note what each field actually establishes.
| Cause number | The court-assigned case identifier and strongest search key. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The caption or short title of the proceeding. |
| Filing entry | A dated event or document reference, not always the image itself. |
| Setting | A hearing date and type that may later be reset. |
| Disposition | A reported result; the signed judgment or order remains authoritative. |
| Access marker | A sealed, restricted, juvenile, or nondisclosure status that can limit display. |
Stick to neutral phrasing such as “the docket lists” or “the clerk's record reports.” A charge, motion, or scheduled hearing does not establish a legal result by itself.
Yoakum County Court Record Copies
Plain, certified, and authenticated copies each serve a different purpose. A plain copy just reproduces the record. A certified copy carries the clerk's authentication as a true copy. The county fee sheet also lists authenticated copies. Ask whether that product fits your court record and its intended use. Transcripts are a separate track. The district page names official court reporter Kayla McKennon. Her office is at 500 W. Main Room 303W, Brownfield, Texas 79316, 806-637-6958, and kmckennon@terrycounty.org. Give her the proceeding date, cause number, and the portion you need. No transcript price or delivery time appears on the district page.
Certified Copies and Fees
The County Clerk 2024 fee schedule took effect January 1, 2024. It bars personal checks, allows no refunds, and recommends a prepaid return envelope. District files, municipal files, transcripts, and Tyler images are not all priced there.
| Copy product | Posted amount | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Plain copy | $1 per page | County Clerk schedule; confirm current case-file use |
| Certified copy | $5 plus $1 per page | County Clerk schedule |
| Authenticated copy | $10 plus $1 per page | County Clerk schedule |
| Transcript | Fee not located | Ask the court reporter |
| Electronic image | Fee not located | Ask the holding clerk |
Confirm the amount before you pay. The posted schedule may not state every current court-record charge, and the public site promises no turnaround.
Yoakum County Court Record Requests
Keep a mailed request lean. Name the court, the cause number, the case style, the date range, the record type, and the format you want. Skip needless personal data. If protected details may appear in the file, ask instead for the public redacted copy.
The fee PDF has one more tip. It recommends a prepaid FedEx, UPS, or Priority Mail envelope, because delivery stops being the clerk's job once the record leaves the office. The clerk offers no mail-in form or payment portal. Call first, ask whether email delivery works, what payment is accepted, and how certification affects the fee, then keep your request and the clerk's reply on file.
Yoakum County Court Record Redactions
A public Yoakum County court file can still hold protected data. Texas rules cover sensitive information. The clerk may hand you a redacted public copy instead of an unrestricted image. Juvenile and child-protection records carry extra statutory safeguards. Seeing a case on a calendar changes none of that.
A file may contain birth dates, account numbers, identifying details about children, or medical information. In that case, request the public redacted portion. If something is withheld, ask which rule, statute, or order controls. Then ask what review route exists. Don't guess at hidden contents from nearby docket entries.
Public Access and Sealed Records
Texas sorts access three ways. OCA's open-records policy distinguishes case records, Rule 12 judicial records, and executive records. Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 covers judicial records outside of case records, while Government Code Chapter 552 handles public information and keeps the judiciary distinction intact.
Access has lawful limits: Rule 76a begins with open-court principles, while sealing orders, redaction rules, juvenile confidentiality, child-protection law, expunction, and nondisclosure can restrict a Yoakum County court record.
Family Code Chapter 58 shields juvenile information. Government Code section 552.142 governs nondisclosure. A foster-care reference on the public calendar does not open the child-protection file, so request the public portion and never try to reconstruct sealed or redacted content.
Verify Yoakum County Court Records
Keep good notes on what you order. Save the file name and the official URL with each record. Some pages still point to legacy co.yoakum.tx.us links, so label those as legacy official sources and look for a newer replacement. Officials sometimes disagree with each other, as with the County Clerk fax listing, so keep the conflict in your notes rather than smoothing it over.
A full written request can read: “Please provide the public, redacted copy of the requested record in the named court and cause number. I request inspection, a plain copy, a certified copy, or a transcript. Please state the current fee and any restriction.” The clerk fills the order and explains the procedure. Interpreting the legal effect of a record is not the clerk's job. Before you order, the Yoakum County case search can pin down the right cause number for the court docket entry you need.
Check a Yoakum County Court Record Request
Check the office first. A district cause sits with the District Clerk. A County Court cause belongs to the County Clerk. City citations stay with the municipal clerk, and justice matters stay in their precinct. Include only what identifies the public record. The cause number, court, record type, date, and copy format usually beat a broad name search.
Ask the fee up front. Ask also whether any part of the file must be redacted or withheld before work begins. If the office redirects you, note where the request went and keep the response. Confirm return-envelope instructions for mailed copies. For an index hit, order the actual filing or order when its contents matter. These steps cut wrong-office delays and keep your Yoakum County court record tied to its official source.
